ABU DHABI // Motorists who plan to drive overseas can now obtain an international driving licence by visiting their local post office.
International driving permits are now being issued in any of the country’s 118 post offices after the Emirates Post Group partnered with the Automobile and Touring Club of the UAE.
With the touring club being the only entity authorised to issue the licences, the partnership would lead to the reduction of unauthorised permits by providing the public with more facilities, said Ibrahim bin Karam, chief commercial officer of the Emirates Post Group.
Mr bin Karam said the agreement would “provide the service of obtaining authorised and universally accepted international driving permits to protect UAE travellers from the harm that can be caused by dubious licenses issued by unauthorised organisations”.
To obtain the licence, motorists must provide a copy of their passport, visa page, valid UAE driving licence, two photographs and Dh140.
