The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has announced a paid holiday for all UAE employees to mark Isra and Mi’raj.
According to local news agency WAM, Isra and Mi’raj Day falls on Wednesday May 4. However, the holiday has been moved to Thursday May 5 to give UAE workers a long weekend.
The federal law states that public holidays can be moved to the beginning or end of the week if they fall between two working days.
Isra and Mi’raj Day marks the night that Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) travelled to “the farthest mosque” (the Isra part of the journey), before ascending to heaven (the Mi’raj part of the journey) to speak to Allah.
