Nakheel begins work on $245mn Deira Islands resort

18 August 2016

Nakheel and Spanish hospitality firm, RIU Hotels & Resorts (RIU), has started the development of their $245mn, 800-room resort and waterpark at Dubai’s Deira Islands.

The joint venture (JV) has appointed Dar Al Handasah consultants for the project, with the company to oversee design, engineering and construction supervision at the resort.

A construction tender is expected to be released by the end of 2016, with anticipated completion in Q3 2019.

The resort is set on a 3.4mn square foot plot at Deira Island, and will offer four swimming pools, a kids’ club, spa and fitness centre.

Infrastructure and coastal works are well under way at Deira Islands, which will add 40 km, including 21 km of beachfront, to Dubai’s coastline.

Nakheel is also developing Deira Mall and Deira Islands Night Souk, among other new attractions at the 15.3 sq km waterfront development.
