Makkah, Saudi Arabia’s holy city, and Dubai both have more than 20,000 hotel rooms in the pipeline, according to latest data supplied by analysts STR.
Makkah currently has 21,835 rooms in 13 hotels under construction while Dubai has 20,882 rooms in 67 hotels, STR’s July 2016 Pipeline Report showed.
Two additional markets in the region reported more than 5,000 rooms under construction, with Doha having 6,830 rooms in 30 hotels and Riyadh having 6,657 rooms in 30 hotels.
Regionally, STR said the Middle East has 155,899 rooms in 552 projects under contract. Under contract data includes projects in the in Construction, final planning and planning stages.
