Expat workers to be fined SR10,000 for being absent from work

Riyadh: The Saudi authorities on Wednesday announced stringent measures against expatriates workers for being absent from work.

Foreigners who fail to report to work will be fined SR10,000, deported permanently and barred from returning to Saudi Arabia.

The General Directorate of Passports announced the penalties, urging citizens and foreigners to comply and report domestic workers and other expatriates who are flouting the laws concerning residency law and labour, reported local Arabic daily Al-Riyadh.

Also, people convicted of sheltering, employing or transporting expatriate lawbreakers risk to be fined SR100,000, sentenced up to 6 months in prison and barred from employing foreigners for five years.
