Residential areas in the outskirts of the city are attracting tenants looking for more affordable options.

The most popular residential areas are Al Reem Island, Al Ghadeer, Al Raha Beach, Al Reef, Khalifa City and Saadiyat with rents in Al Ghadeer being the most affordable.

Abu Dhabi is expected to introduce a Rental Index, similar to that in Dubai, to replace the cap, which was abolished in November 2013. The Rental Index is being drawn up by the Department of Municipal Affairs and could be introduced by the end of the year, which should help to ease rising rents.
