The Value of Industry Events

28 July 2022

One of the biggest changes to the corporate landscape of 2022 was the re-introduction of in-person industry events at an almost pre-pandemic rate.  Having shut down or gone online for much of 2020 and 2021, this year has seen a significant increase in the amount of live industry events, across the globe.  These calendared commercial occasions create unique environments for growth, collaboration and partnership.  That is why, despite any initial nervousness of crowds or conference rooms, there are plenty of positives to the return of industry events.

EER on the Go

After having been confined to quarters with the rest of the world for so long, 2022 saw a welcome return to in-person industry event for EER.  Both of our co-owners Marie O’Neill and Aideen Hopkins have had a busy few months attending leading international conferences, appearing on panels and lending their voice to impactful discussions.  Although they had both been highly in demand during the zoom events of the pandemic era, the opportunity to connect in-person comes with a range of unrivalled benefits.  This year alone, the team has been at events such as the 2022 EuRA International Relocation Congress in Seville, the Global Expansion Conference 2022, the DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre) Consultant Awards 2021, the Seddons Annual Garden Party and was even a sponsor at a number of PCD Group networking dinners in the UK.  Each outing is an opportunity to connect and share with other industry experts, often in ways that are impossible to replicate in an online forum.  As well as providing invaluable insights for up-and-coming business leaders and managers, both Aideen and Marie relish the opportunity to update the community on EER’s news and learn about new ventures, advancements and techniques that could benefits their business and client base.

The Benefits of Live Industry Events

These diverse gatherings of workshops, conferences, exhibitions and more are a recognition of our ability to survive, thrive and evolve, especially at a time when the relocation industry is increasingly in-demand and under rapid expansion. When looked at as a whole, the most valuable benefits of industry events include:

  • Knowledge sharing
  • Relationship building
  • Challenge advice
  • Collaboration
  • Trend evaluation
  • Industry advancement
  • Impactful learning
  • Networking
  • Mentorship

A Future of Balance?

Although in-person industry events are highly beneficial in multiple ways, the future is likely to be best served by a balance of both live and virtual events moving forward.  The reality is that the pandemic showed how much can be accomplished by technology and thoughtful innovation, ensuring that many of the objectives we had prior to covid can be achieved in different (and more online) ways.  Virtual events or virtual attendance of live events can be good for the environment as well as save companies time and money.  That is why having the option is useful for organisers as they evaluate the goals of their event and how best to serve them for their own brand, their audience and the wider community.

Overall, although safety must continue to be paramount as we attempt to learn from the past and avoid any impending risks, the value of in-person events is quite evident.  The more we are able to safeguard their preservation, the better off we will all be.  No matter which industry you are in, the opportunity to fully connect and liaise with others can often be the catalyst for significant evolution and advancement, not to mention be extremely useful in overcoming obstacles and bypassing challenges.  EER looks forward to seeing you at the next event!
