Abu Dhabi has overtaken Dubai to claim the title of the Middle East’s top ranked Networked Society City, according to technology giant Ericsson.
Its Networked Society City Index 2016 ranked Abu Dhabi 23rd globally, three places ahead of Dubai which fell four places compared to the previous year despite launching its plan to become the world’s smartest city.
New laws have been issued which aim to enhance the progress of the Smart City initiative and encourage innovation by fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.
Other Gulf cities ranked in the list were Riyadh at 32 and Muscat at 33.
